Summit School has been providing childcare for Duluth families for over 25 years. We are tucked away in a small neighborhood near St. Scholastica with over an acre of beautiful outdoor space which we use year round. Our 120 year old building has lived many lives and we are very proud of the work we have accomplished here. Unfortunately, this building cannot sustain expanded capacity for childcare and is in dire need of repairs. We are excited to announce the beginning of our capital campaign to help address the childcare crisis in Duluth. The goals are loft and the climb will be difficult, but we have no choice but to go on. Are you ready to join us?

Here are our options:
RenovateTotal Cost: $2-3 million over 10-15 years
Impact: Displaced students during renovations, unable to increase licensed capacity, large investment for little return. |
BuildTotal Cost: $7-10 million
Impact: Increased care capacity in a site designed for child care, commercial kitchen to serve lunch, larger investment but longer lasting impact. |
MoveTotal Cost: Varies widely to purchase or rent and then renovate
Impact: Lose access to our outdoor space, lose neighborhood connection, likely unable to increase capacity with outdoor space restrictions. |
There is no easy path forward, but Summit feels strongly that investing in a new building on our current site is the option that allows us to meet a need in the community, strengthen our community ties, and establish a child care center that could continue to provide high quality care for decades to come.
